Cornell Hockey at Madison Square Garden

I spent the weekend after Thanksgiving up in NYC, where I had a fabulous time thanks to the glorious sunny weather and Christmas cheer that is starting to spread throughout the city! Macy’s had their Christmas windows done up in all their splendor, and Rockefeller Center just got the most beautiful perfect Christmas tree. I spent most of the weekend walking in Central Park because the weather was so lovely, but Sat night the reason I was in the city was for the famous Cornell Thanksgiving Hockey Game at Madison Square Garden. We had a Class of 2009 Pregame event at Blarney Stone, followed by an exciting game - t
he Big Red gave Boston University a big scare at the Red Hot Hockey game at Madison Square Garden. In the end, it was Cornell vs. BU 3-3. As my first fall away from Cornell, it was very fun to catch up with all my friends who I hadn’t seen since graduation. My friend introduced me to an adorable little cafĂ© on the upper east side between Park and Fifth called Gina La Fornarina, which was all white and pink with splendid pink Christmas balls hanging all over the place. Great drinks and food, you must sure to stop the next time you are in the city. Some pictures from the weekend:

I'm Hosting A Giveaway!

To kick off the holiday season in style, I'm announcing my next giveaway starting today! With December calendars getting pleasantly booked up and holiday parties nearing just around the corner, I am always trying to come up with new ideas for personalized hostess gifts to bring to the friends and relatives who host such wonderful festivities.

Michelle from The Paper Cottage is kind enough to be offering one lucky reader of my blog a set of personalized notes from The Paper Menu's fine stationery and gifts store. I think they are just perfect either as thank-you notes you can use for writing thanks for the gifts all you wonderful hostesses will surely be receiving this season, or as a gift monogrammed to give to some lucky hostess of a party you attend. This giveaway of notecards will be the design of your choice. Even if you are not the winner, you must be sure to checkout the cards which are for sale on the Paper Cottage's website - her designs are so cute and fun and also are a great price point for a cute personalized holiday gift.

To enter this giveaway, please post a comment telling me your name, email address, and one small act of kindness you will do for another person this holiday season. For an additional two entries, you can enter The Paper Cottage's mailing list. For another point you can join owner Michelle's blog, http://Prettylittlethingsforyou.blogspot.com or her facebook page.

The winner will be drawn on December 3rd, so hurry and visit The Paper Cottage today and choose which design you would like!

Dedicated to the Cause, Dedicated to Denim

A few weeks ago I posted about the wonderful Bungalow company. Since then I attended another fantastic event hosted by Deb Johns, Bungalow’s founder. Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase, a true neighborhood institution that kindly supports local charity events, was the venue for Deb’s “Dedicated to the Cause, Dedicated to Denim” event. Last Tuesday Oct. 27, women in Washington wore their jeans and enjoyed morning coffee or evening cocktails while Deb Johns showed us how to freshen up, dress up and lift up our denim. “Denim is the new little black pant!” Deb said, and she showed us all new stylish ways to wear and coordinate them with investment staples.

The event was to benefit the Breast Cancer Care Foundation, a Washington organization whose mission is to facilitate access to breast cancer care and ancillary services for women and men in the Washington, DC metropolitan area who are underserved, uninsured, or otherwise have insufficient financial resources for comprehensive breast health care. BCCF helps bridge the gap when other programs and resources have been exhausted. BCCF was founded in 1999 by three compassionate Washington women: Jean M. Lynn (Program Director, National Cancer Institute), Shawna C. Willey (Chief of Breast Surgery Director, Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center at Georgetown University Medical Center), and Julianne Greenberg (Director of Mammography, Washington Radiology Associates).

All proceeds from the event tickets and 5% of Saks’ sales went to benefit the BCCF.
