June Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale

My invitation to the semi-annual Lilly Warehouse Sale finally arrived in the mail last week!

Is anyone else from the DC/Maryland/VA area planning to attend?

I'd love to have a get-together the evening before and maybe even carpool (go green!) on the way to/from. I'm planning to leave on tuesday June 7 in the late afternoon and drive to Philadelphia the night before the big sale madness begins on wednesday at 5am! It will not have to be a late night, ladies, because shopping begins early the next morning! I think it would be fun if anyone else who is staying at the hotel would like to meet for drinks/dinner around 8:30pm.

Please email mlg46@cornell.edu by May 20 to let me know if you are planning to attend, so we can begin coordinating details! I plan to attend Day 1 of the Sale and return to DC on tuesday afternoon.

xoxo,
Melanie

Washington Meets the Socialtini - the Social Safeway Grand Reopening Party!

I’m so glad the social safeway is back! That’s right, last night at the new signature martini made its debut before at the gala I went to for the grand re-opening of the redone Social Safeway in Georgetown. It is so much better than the old store! And the party was amazing. My friend Stephanie and I couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw the red carpet entrance and were greeted with flutes of Veuve Clicquot. The new grocery store is so much better than the old one! Who could imagine that a night in a supermarket could be such a gallant affair? But the entire evening was an incredible taste-fest of the most wonderful selection of wine, champagne, cocktails, sushi, mini starbucks tastes!, cheese (this divine blueberry brie flown in from France), éclairs, and more…it was a party down every aisle. There was even a Belvedere vodka fountain!

I bumped into such a great variety of people last night – the lovely nutritionist Katharine Tallmadge, senators, friends, and I even got to meet the assistant White House chef, Sam Kass! He was serving a delicious cucumber avocado chilled soup that was so summery and light.

One of my favorite sections of the new “lifestyle concept” layout of the store is the beautiful 2,500-bottle, climate-controlled cellar. It will be so nice to have a one-stop shop for every time I’m entertaining. The wine went well with the Eric Felten Jazz Orchestra playing Sinatra songs in the background. Michael Quinn will direct the wine room, and they will be offering regular wine and cheese pairings on Thursdays from 5-7pm.

The best part about this new Social Safeway is that it was built sustainably! There are no CFC refrigerants used in the chilled éclair cases ?. The cooling system is completely green, and all of the unsold produce get composted, just like Whole Foods does, and it’s all built to LEED certifications!

Well social safeway, welcome back to the neighborhood!

Merry May Beginnings

This past weekend on May Day I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Bethany of Maryland Pink and Green. She kindly came to my Derby Day cocktail party, and I had such fun connecting with this lovely young woman living in the DC-Maryland area. I just love meeting fellow bloggers, and getting to finally match a person with her name! It’s amazing and wonderful how we always seem to have a great deal in common.

Well, Bethany is leading off May on her blog with a wonderful giveaway - in celebration of Michigan Lilly signature store Village Palm’s one-year Anniversary! She is kindly hosting a giveaway on her blog to win a Lilly Pulitzer mini round umbrella from LeSportsac – the perfect mini size to put in your smallest purse or tote.

To enter you must be a follower of Maryland Pink and Green. If you haven’t visited Bethany’s blog already, be sure to head on over and meet her. She’s a delight! The lucky winner will be announced on Tuesday, May 11. Good luck everyone, and happy month of May!
