A New Neighborhood Cupcakerie Wows!

Pink and green balloons smiling against sunny blue skies made it easy to spot Something Sweet, the new bakery and cupcake cafe in Woodley Park. Bubbling with anticipation, I headed over yesterday during its opening hour to check out what the place was all about, and I must say it was delightful! Just a few cafe tables and a shabby-chic, fresh interior set a casual antiquey scene for enjoying one of seven cupcake flavors or their cookies, milkshakes, or tangy frozen yogurt. Glass jars of lemonade and iced tea sitting on little feet were touches of personality.

Sometimes if the ambiance and decor of the place itself is cute enough, I don't care quite as much whether the cupcakes actually taste better than another cupcakerie, but Something Sweet delighted even further on the epicurean side! I sampled only the frosting because the shop doesn't any sell gluten-free cupcakes, but my brother ordered the vanilla cupcake and said it was the best cupcake in Washington! It felt heavy weighing it in my hand, but it was dense but in a good way because my brother said it tasted very moist. I thought the frosting was perfect - very true vanilla bean flavor accompanied by just the right level of sweetness.

I wish my heartiest congratulations to Meghan and Bo Blair, the entrepreneurs behind this creative idea who seized the opportunity to open a cupcake spot over in the Cathedral neighborhood. I only wish it was there when I was going to NCS! I would have chosen cupcakes over Starbucks any afternoon :)
